The phone is referred to as a four by five because it has four call appearances and five circuits. Four of the circuits connect to an Ethernet LAN or broadband connection, and one circuit provides an analog connection to the PSTN. The ZIP 4x5 simplifies remote connectivity to the corporate network and phone system. The switch and router integrates firewall, NAT, and VPN functions. The device can connect directly to a broadband Internet connection such as a DSL or cable modem. With four external Ethernet ports, three additional IP devices such as computers, printers, and other phones can also connect to the network.
