JOB DESCRIPTIONS and REQUIREMENTS SCOUT - Your primary job will be to interview high school athletes who have been recommended as potential college prospects. These recommendations usually come from the prospect s coach but may also come from other athletes or by scouting games and practices. The interviews that we conduct take place in the prospect s home and must include the prospect s parents. This means that all interviews will be conducted in the evenings between 6:00 and 10:00 and on the weekend. For this reason we may consider some part time scouts in certain areas. The purpose of the interview is to determine the qualifications of the athlete. Even though the high school coach may have recommended the athlete as a legitimate college prospect we still have to verify his/her qualifications before we can recommend the athlete to college coaches. We are in the promotion and scouting business, not the coaching business. Therefore, you are not expected to evaluate the prospect s skill level and it is not important for you to be an expert in the sport the prospect participates in. In fact, we deal in over 30 NCAA men and women s sports and no one is an expert in all these sports. After about a 30-minute qualification interview you will decide if the prospect is indeed qualified for college athletics and is the type individual NSR would like to recommend to college coaches. At this time you will present our Promotional Program to the family. The presentation must be done on a laptop computer in order to illustrate the various services offered. This means that it is essential for you to have a laptop with a CD-ROM drive. The family is given the opportunity to enroll in our service so that their son or daughter will have their best chance to be recruited for a scholarship. Most smart parents will accept the offer because they want to do the best for their child. Although, some will just rely on luck or the high school coach because, even though this is taking a big chance, these are free. They usually regret this whenever their child is overlooked but whatever they decide, we don t try to push them. Occasionally you will run into someone who has enrolled with one of the many upstart Internet recruiting services. These things are cheap gimmicks and totally useless. Colleges don t recruit people just because they have a personal profile on some Internet service that has no background or credibility in the business. There are also two or three recruiting companies around that basically just send out a prospect s profile to certain colleges that they choose. This too is a very watered down promotion for the prospect. Most parents don t want to be cheap or go the cheap route when it comes to the welfare of their child. It never pays off. That s why a high percentage of prospects and their families will want to be a part of the NSR program. It s not only the very best, it s also the only program that properly promotes the athlete and attracts the attention of college coaches. As a scout you will take pride in the fact that you represent the very best recruiting company in the world and that you can be assured that the prospects you enroll in our service will enjoy a high rate of success. You will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of a lot of deserving young people. The History of Athletic Scouting Companies The interest in athletic scouting at the high school level for college sports is becoming increasingly popular. In fact, for someone looking for a good business opportunity, franchise, or business investment, an established scouting service or recruiting service may be a smart investment. Recruiting for college sports is big business whether you?re talking about football, basketball, baseball, or some of the minor sports like softball, soccer, volleyball, and golf. For the high school athlete who wants to play college sports and have an opportunity for an athletic scholarship, he or she is now often turning to an expert for help. College scholarships are not easy to get and high school athletes who are considered college prospects are finding that a sports marketing professional is more help than the high school coach or the college coach. In 1980 the founder of National Scouting Company, Bob Rigney, pioneered a unique sports business industry by starting the very first company devoted to college recruiting. His prior involvement with high school sports, booster clubs, International sports, coaching, sports camps, fine arts scholarships, and college sports gave him the expertise to start a sports company of this type. Today, the industry is viewed as a vital and necessary part of the college recruiting industry. It has attracted the interest of professionals involved in business sales, business licensing, corporations for sale, sales jobs, and even venture capital companies interested in International investments involving International athletes. This multi-million dollar industry now involves over 2,000 colleges with over 30 different sports programs, over 20,000 high schools, over seven million high school athletes, and tens of thousands of coaches. National Scouting Report has offices throughout the United States and in several International locations throughout the world. Please send your resume to mlombardi@nationalscoutingreport.org
